To add the wow appeal in cakes, the baking industry thought of coming up with various options of designer cakes online and offline. Crafted for a specific occasion or festival, designer cakes effortlessly become the highlight or the showstopper of every celebratory event. One such piece of decoration that is quite widely used in these edible masterpieces are colourful sprinklers. To reflect a perfect happy yet a colourful vibe, often bakers add edible sprinklers on top of their cakes to fill the cake with colours. But the inquisitive amateur bakers would ask how to design their cakes by adding sprinklers and that is what we are going to take you through over this article. Without resulting in any cakey catastrophe, here’s how to top up your regular cakes with colourful sprinklers, like a pro.

Things You Will Need:

  • 8oz bottle of your favourite sprinkle mix
  • A baking sheet
  • A crumb-coated cake
  • Buttercream to coat the final layer of cake
  • Icing scraper
  • Angled icing spatula
  • Cake turntable
  • Cardboard cake circle

The Process Of Decking Up Your Cake With Sprinklers:

Step 1: Start by frosting the sides of your cake

Take your icing scraper to smoothen or straighten the sides of your cake with the buttercream finishing. Then use your angled icing spatula to frost the cake inward when the buttercream ridge forms around the top rim of the cake. Also, around the top rim make sure to create sharp edges. Once you have done smoothing out the cake, refrigerate your cake for 10-15 minutes to let the buttercream set. But make sure the cake doesn’t get too firm.

Step 2: Spread the Sprinklers On A Baking Sheet

Pour all the sprinklers on a baking sheet, while your cake is getting refrigerated. Feel free to juggle them up with your hands so that they mix up quite well.

Step 3: Spin The Cake To Cover It Up With Sprinklers

Take the cake out from the refrigerator and place a cardboard cake circle on the top and bottom of the cake. These cardboard cake circles will help you get a better grip at holding the cake from top and the bottom. By placing your hands (one on the top and another one on the below) gently roll the sprinklers placed over the baking sheet until it completely covers its sides. This is how you cover up the sides of the cake with the sprinklers.

Step 4: Cover The Top Of The Cake With Icing

Once having covered the sides of the cake, place your cake back on the turntable. Remove the cardboard cake circle from the top of the cake. And start icing the cake top with the buttercream. Again use your angled icing spatula to smoothen out the top frosted layer of the cake while maintaining your sharp edges. Then, again refrigerate your cake for about 5 minutes to let the buttercream set slightly.

Step 5: Decorate The Cake Top With Sprinkles

Finally sprinkle some of the colourful edible sprinkles on top of the cake, using your icing spatula. Even out all of the top layer of the cake and make sure to cover it fully with the sprinkles.

Kudos! To you for decking up your cake so beautifully. But if you can’t master it, then don’t give up, keep trying to ace this game, we know you will be able to do it! Even if you couldn’t, choose the easy path out, by opting to order cake online in Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad or whichever part of the world that you are residing in to spread love and joy to your dear ones.
